An easy life

When planning your IT security systems, bear in mind that to be effective they need to be easy to use. If procedures are cumbersome, time consuming or difficult to remember, people will not adopt them readily. Or worse, they will find ways around them or even ignore them completely. And this is true of both users and administrators, so systems need to be easy to administer as well as operate.

If you want to change policy or processes, try and include user benefits that encourage positive adoption and ensure easy administration.

Most people want an easier life, and most people have plenty to do already without being burdened with additional ‘hassle’. So put yourself in the place of the users for a moment. In the long run, making their lives easier might make your life easier too.
