Ready, willing – but able?
Someone once said that “the world is run by people who turn up”. The trouble is that sometimes the people who turn up aren’t necessarily the ones you’d choose to run the world!
In incident management and business recovery terms, you don’t just want a random bunch of misfits and prima donnas to turn up. You want the right people, with the right skills and abilities, who can actually do the job for you.
Therefore, it’s not good enough just to come up with a few names and write them in a plan. People need to know what’s expected of them. They need to be aware of the issues that they might be asked to deal with. They’ll need training to enable them to do this. And they certainly need to exercise or rehearse.
So, if you ever need to invoke your business continuity plans, you need to be confident that the right people will not only turn up, but that they will also know what to do when they get there.
